Long Time Coming
— a poem to my husband
Where do I begin? On this long journey of ours. Lets go back before we stayed up all night talking for hours.
I wasn’t into you, but you were all about me. I was through with men way before you showed up on the scene. I played duck as you chased like a goose.
I kept you waiting cause I knew I had the juice.
You huffed and puffed and blew down my steel door.
Next thing I know we are cruising down riverside in your black two door.
Mad cause you couldn’t read me as I hid behind my disguise.
Uncovered I went and just like I thought you had me when I looked you in the eyes.
I was mad when you didn’t ask me out on the 4th of July, but not even 2 days later you asked and you finally became mine.
Senior year came and it flew by with a flash, plus some rough patches we couldn’t help but clash.
4 years later, the year is 2017 and it’s Spring. I’m now Mrs. Ramey, it’s official I have a ring.
We still have our ups and downs, but we still have each other and that’s all that matters now.
Nothing’s better than waking up next to you and the sound of birds humming.
I love you Cowboy Troy and I thank you for this long time coming.
— your wife
