Bold Elijah

My husband chose my son’s first name, and I couldn’t be more happier with it. Elijah is a bold and loyal name, and if you don’t know and understand Elijah’s story in the bible, then you won’t understand the meaning of his name.

The name Elijah means “My God is Yah.” In Kings chapter, God sent Elijah to stop the idolatry that was going on in Israel and Ahbab. God sent a drought, that would not be relieved until Elijah said the words. Once he finally gained all the trust of the people, he sent rain. Making them look up to God once again, and not these idols they were looking up too. The point of the story is that if you are loyal in what you do for God, he will then be loyal to you in return and give everlasting love.

It is a story of trust and I love that my son’s name is from a story of God that was his right hand man in some sense for quite some time.

I pray that my son is trusting of his father and I, and I pray that he is loyal to God, us, and his friends. I pray that he keeps his focus in check and that he see’s what is really important in situations. I pray that he see’s the good in people, and recognizes the bad. I don’t want him to ever treat someone as if they are less or not good enough. That is not a characteristic of God. It isn’t a characteristic of my foundations. I want him to be bold and only scared of not being scared. I know this child will reach his goals, but I pray that he reaches them in a honorable, patient way.

I’m positive we all want the best for our kids, and that sometimes it doesn’t work out that way. I am going to have faith in God that my child will learn on his own and develop these emotions and virtues through God, my husband, and I’s teaching. We can only pray and hope, right?

These are some heavy thoughts that are on my mind sometimes, and I never really looked into what Elijah’s story is in the bible. But it teaches a very valuable lesson. I can’t wait to teach it to my little Elijah these lessons. I know God will have my back, because it’s the word of him, and I trust.

Elijah I can’t wait to have you here.
